Rio Ferdinand will be back in a Manchester United jersey after his long recovery for knee problem. He hasn’t played a match in months, and there’s no telling how he’ll respond. My money is on him having a good match, stringing a few passes together, but nothing spectacular. Rooney also seems likely to make a come back following the recent revelations about his off the pitch actions. He’ll either shrug off the jeers, because if you think he was going to get it rough at Everton you have no idea how harsh the Scots will be, and respond with goals, or go through the motions. Don’t look for a total breakdown on the pitch, I don’t think it will happen, but a lack of goals and hunger for them will betray a nervous and shaken man.
That said, Rangers failed to win any of their six games at the top level last year and have not won any of their last Champions League games, losing seven times of ten. They have also lost on four of their last five visits to English clubs, the exception being a 2-1 European Cup win over Leeds in 1992-93.
I’m predicting: Manchester United 2-0 Glasgow Rangers FC
