Home / EPL / Football Transfer Rumors: Jose Enrique to Liverpool

It seems King Kenny has gone on another raid for Newcastle’s promising full back Jose Enrique as he looks to fill out his backline after being unable to tempt Gael Clichy. Rumors have been swirling around a move to Anfield for Enrique since Liverpool legend Phil Thompson spilled the beans on the transfer back in April. Apparently everything was set for him to move immediately after the end of the season, but was put to hold as the Reds thought they might be able to get a better deal for Clichy.

It seems that Clichy was simply not interested in putting on a Liverpool jersey and has opted for Manchester City instead for the absurd bargain of 7 million pounds. Newcastle will be expecting far more than that for Enrique, who cost the 6.3 million pounds to sign, and hold their defense together. He obviously wasn’t a bargain, I’d say they paid 10 million pounds for him at least. Either way, it should be interesting to see if an Arsenal style exodus from Newcastle will now follow after the loos of so many top players. Only time will tell, but one thing seems certain, Jose Enrigue will be wearing the red of the Kop come August.
