We all know it well, the old sanction nationalism of the pre-match national anthem that gets every international started. During the song you’re not always expected to sing, as I’m pretty sure not everyone knows the words to the songs, but everyone manages to follow the basic rules of decorum.
No. 1: Don’t jeer the other side while they offer an out tune rendition of the song
No. 2: Don’t poke fun at the lyrics
No. 3: Don’t laugh
No. 4: Face the same direction as everyone else
Damien Duff got No. 4 a bit wrong while wearing the Ireland jersey out in Estonia…but God love him for really singing those lyrics out.
