Home / EPL / Nike Manchester United Home Jersey Review – 2012/13

Manchester United had a disappointing season that ended with losing the Premier League title to their rivals Manchester City on the final day. It goes without saying that Sir Alex and company will be looking to improve this season and reclaim their Premier League crown. This upcoming season, Manchester United will be wearing one of the more unique jerseys that you will see.

Style

I must admit, at first glance, I was wondering whether you should wear this jersey or lay it down and have a picnic on it. Unlike most Manchester United home jerseys, this one is not plain red, but features a gingham design. For those of you not familiar with gingham, it is a checked or plaid design. Even though my first reaction was not positive regarding this jersey, after reading about the history of the design, I began to like the jersey more. Gingham was produced in Manchester during the Industrial Revolution, so it is nice that Manchester United is looking to pay homage to the city’s history. This can be seen with the saying on the inside of the collar that says, “Forged in Industry, Striving for Glory.” This pays homage to the city’s industrial roots while also giving a nod to the clubs famous “Glory Glory Man United.” In addition to the gingham design, the collar is black to give an accent color and the Manchester United crest is stitched on to the left chest.

Feel

This jersey is made of 100 percent recycled polyester and, like all Nike jerseys, features Dri-Fit technology. Dri-Fit helps to keep you dry and comfortable while you cheer on Manchester United during the upcoming season. This jersey also runs true to size so you don’t have to worry about weird sizing issues when ordering one of these history-inspired jerseys.

Overall

As I said above, this jersey has definitely grown on me with time. Some people may not like the checkered design, but when you hear the history behind the design, I appreciate what Nike has done with this jersey more. This jersey is currently available for pre-order at SoccerPro.com, so head over there and gear up for the upcoming Premier League season.
