The baby-faced assassin…what a great nickname. Even though he looks like a small child at times, Javier Hernandez plays years above his boyish looks. The ‘Little Pea’ has quickly become from unknown Club America sensation to global icon within one dashing season at one of the world’s most storied clubs, Manchester United. In addition to igniting Europe and the Red Devils season with 20 goals in his debut season for the England club, Chicharito has impressed for his home country of Mexico as well, netting 21 goals in 29 appearances thus far for El Tri (an incredible return for those of you who know about international soccer or just the game in general). The 23-year-old has already won over the hearts of Manchester fans…now, he’s won over a global brand as well in Nike with the addition of a shirt solely dedicated to the talented footballer.
Similar to the Rooney hero tee, the Chicharito hero tee is all red as well, a nod to the club to which he plays for. When first slipping this shirt, I immediately felt comfortable and at home. Though admittedly I’m not the biggest United fan (in Wenger, I occasionally trust), I am a fan of the player so I didn’t feel too bad wearing the shirt even though he plays for a rival club. Donning the number 14 and highly stylized lettering, the shirt feels modern yet simplistic enough so you don’t feel ridiculous wearing the shirt, like some of the previous Lyon jerseys out there. Though the shirt is a bit of a letdown after you put on a Chicharito jersey, it’s still a great $20 spent. The shirt has held up well in testing thanks to 100% cotton implementation by Nike, a popular choice in tee designs. In addition, moisture was easily wicked away by the shirt and was surprisingly breathable.
Even as a Gunner fan, I find myself wearing this shirt…a lot. Tells you a lot about how good this shirt is. A must have.
