Home / International Soccer / Soccer Question Time: Why do We Have A Hi-Vis Ball Option for Euro 2012?…(Video)

We often get questions emailed into us a soccerprose.com, and this most recent one from Steve in Nevada deserves a response. Steve ash: “Why do they bother to make a Hi-Vis version of the match balls for Euro 2012? Is it just a scam to get people to buy two balls?”

The answer to this question is no, the offering of the adidas Tango 12 Hi-Vis ball is not a scam, but necessary for a place like the Ukriane and Poland, where it often snows. As the video (skip ahead to 1:16) of a Glentoran match below shows, its bloody hard to see a white match ball in the snow, even for the players, and near impossible on the television. The reason the Hi-Vis is for sale as well as the match ball is because its looks good, and people want to buy them, but make no mistake, if it snows and the under-pitch heating can’t cope, they’ll use that orange ball.

Hope that helps clear things up!
