Arsenal

Arsenal v. Tottenham Match Preview

One of the exciting clashes of the weekend features two London teams. Tottenham Hotspur will head to Emirates Stadium to face the men in Arsenal jerseys. These two teams have been struggling lately and will be hoping for a positive result when they clash Saturday.

A lot of talk surrounded Arsenal before the season when their captain, Robin Van Persie, departed for rival Manchester United. Arsenal has lost several key players from their squad the past few seasons. The loss of key players has definitely affected the team’s success on the field. Arsenal is currently in eighth place with only 16 points from 11 games. Arsenal lost their match against Manchester United 2-1 on Nov. 3 and tied their next game 3-3 against Fulham Nov. 10. Their last win in the Premier League came almost a month ago when they beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0.

Tottenham is also a team that is struggling. Last season, they narrowly missed the Champions League and then had a change of managers in the offseason. Andres Villas-Boas has lead Tottenham to an up-and-down season but they still remain just 10 points behind Premier League leaders United. Tottenham has lost their last two matches against Wigan Athletic and Manchester City, so they are desperate for a win.

This game should be exciting with both teams being equally matched. Both Arsenal and Tottenham have scored 18 goals. The main difference between the two teams is Arsenal has only conceded 11 goals, while Tottenham has conceded 16 goals. Therefore I think the game will be very close and end in a 1-1 draw. The pressure will be on both teams since recent performances have not been the best, which will result in a conservative gameplan from both managers.

Petr Cech

Premier League: Only a three-team race for the title?

In an article on ESPNFC, Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech claimed the Premier League is already only a three-team race for the title.

“We lost some points, they [United and City] did at the start of the season. So, it looks like we’ll be the three teams that chase the title,” Cech said.

Teams in the Premier League have only played 11 games so far this season, which is less than a third of the way through. Therefore, it seems a little premature to claim only three teams are still in the title race. However, once you take a look at the Premier League table, Cech may be right.

Manchester United is currently in first with 27 points; Manchester City is second with 25 points, and Chelsea sit third in the league with 24 points. Then the table gets interesting. Arsenal and Liverpool have traditionally been part of the Premier League’s big four and Tottenham has been in the conversation the past few seasons. To the disappointment of their fans, those three teams are not even close to being mentioned as title contenders. Tottenham is in seventh, 10 points behind United, Arsenal is in eighth, 11 points behind United and Liverpool isn’t even in the top half of the table.

The more interesting thing happening in the Premier League is the teams directly behind the top three. Everton, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United are all within single digits of United, which many people wouldn’t have expected before the season. The interesting thing to watch is if those teams can maintain their level of play or if they begin to fall during the course of the long season.

If you look at the table this way, Petr Cech may be right, which is disappointing for the Premier League. It is better for the Premier League if there are more than three teams in the title race after 11 games. A race between only three teams is not as interesting for the majority of the viewers other than fans of those particular teams.

Is there a way for the Premier League to make the league more competitive and allow some smaller clubs to compete with the larger clubs? Would you want more teams being able to compete for the title? Let us know what your thoughts are regarding the Premier League title race!

Adidas F50 Adizero

Revealed: Adidas F50 adizero TRX FG Soccer Cleats – Vivid Yellow with Black

Adidas and Nike have two spectacular cleats that are currently available for pre-order: the Nike CR7 Mercurial Vapor VIII and the Adidas F50 Adizero. We have already shown the CR7 Vapor and today we are going to look at the F50 Adizero. Adidas has, once again, redesigned the Adizero and this latest redesign looks fantastic.

This cleat remains incredibly light at only 5.8 ounces, which allows you to beat opponents with speed. The main difference between this version and previous versions is the style of the upper.

These new Adizero’s are sure to grab attention on the field. They are predominantly bright yellow with black at the heel. The two colors combine very nicely to provide a visually appealing cleat. Anyone who is familiar with the Adizero line of cleats will recognize this color pattern since Adidas used it with the older version of the Adizero. Why mess with a good thing, right?

This cleat features a single-layer Sprintskin upper. This helps make the cleat incredibly light, while also providing the player with great touch on the ball. Sprintweb is another nice feature of the F50 Adizero. This provides good stability that allows you to cut, even when you are flying around the field in these light cleats. The Sprintweb also helps increase stability. (Notice the use of Sprint everything. Adidas wants you to know that these cleats help make you faster by drastically reducing weight.)

In order to keep players comfortable on the field, Adidas put the Traxion stud pattern on these cleats. Traxion gives great grip on natural surfaces without putting pressure on your feet.

One last feature you get with the Adizero is miCoach compatibility. MiCoach allows players to track their stats on the field and compare with your friends and professionals. This is a great feature and can also let you know how your game is improving by keeping track of your stats.

All of these features make this cleat a perfect option for anyone who is a fan of speed. Not only are these light, they are also extremely comfortable and the technology allows you to track stats. This must be why Messi, one of the best players in the world, chooses Adidas F50 Adizero’s as his cleat of choice. As I mentioned above, these are currently available for pre-order at SoccerPro.com, so head over and check them out today!

Champions League

Champions League group stage is coming to an end

With only two games remaining in the group stage of the Champion’s League, some teams have a clear path to the knockout stages, while other groups are still very close.

Group B has three teams separated by only a few points. Schalke 04 leads the group with eight points, Arsenal is second with seven points, and Olympiakos has six points. This should make for an exciting finish for this group. If Arsenal fails to reach the knockout stages, Arsene Wenger will be feeling pressure, especially with their poor performance in the Premier League at this point.

Group D is another interesting group. Borussia Dortmund leads this group with eight points. Real Madrid sits only one point behind Dortmund. Ajax is in third with four points and Manchester City are currently last in the group with only two points from four games. Manchester City still claim they have a chance of advancing, however it does not look promising. City face Dortmund and Real Madrid in their final two games of the group stage. Real Madrid is looking to be crowned champions of Europe this season, which is one of the reasons Real Madrid brought Jose Mourinho in, so they will have to focus and make sure not to slip up in their final two group stage games if they want to advance.

The final group to watch as the group stage is coming to an end is Group E. This group features the Champions League holders and the top three teams are all extremely close. Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk are both tied at seven points, while Juventus sit one point behind with six points. Juventus must play both Chelsea and Shakhtar in their final two games, which will be interesting and exciting to watch. (Nerve-wrecking as well if you are a supporter of these teams.)

The Champions League always provides great entertainment, which is what you would expect when the top teams from around the world compete against each other. At this point, there is only one team that has run away with their group and that is Manchester United. (However, United’s group was not a terribly hard group to be a part of, unlike Group D.) These final games will be very exciting as some teams, like Manchester City, play for their Champions League lives, and others battle to see who will win their group. It is sure to be a great ending to a close group stage before we get to the knockout stages!

Ronaldo Son

Ronaldo v. Messi Part II?

Lionel Messi and his girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo welcomed a son today in a Barcelona hospital. This is Messi’s first child and the couple named him Thiago. Now the question becomes, is Messi’s child going to live up to his father’s greatness and lead Spain to hoist the World Cup? (Since he was born in Spain.) Messi took to Facebook to share his feelings on the birth of his son.

“Today I am the happiest man in the world, my son was born and thanks to God for this gift! Thanks to my family for the support! A hug to everyone,” Messi posted.

An interesting side note to this story is the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo welcomed a son in 2010. As many of you may know, Ronaldo is two years older than Messi. Ronaldo is 27-years-old while Messi is only 25-years-old. Could we have the beginning of a new rivalry?

Who knows, many years from now, Thiago and Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. (It would have been awesome if Messi named his son Lionel Messi Jr., then we could have a legitimate second generation rivalry) could be scoring hundreds of goals a season in La Liga instead of the mere 50 and 46 goal performances their fathers had in La Liga last season.

With the arrival of Messi’s son, the Ronaldo v. Messi rivalry can live on even after the two stars have retired, assuming that both of their sons pursue a career in soccer. We will keep our eye on this story for the next 18ish years so stay tuned!

Robin Van Persie Wayne Rooney

Arsenal travel to Old Trafford Saturday to face Manchester United

This weekend, fans can enjoy one of the greatest rivalries in the English Premier League: Arsenal v. Manchester United. On Sat. Nov. 3, Arsenal travels to Old Trafford and it will be the first time Robin Van Persie faces his former team.

Van Persie has adjusted well to life with Manchester United and is fitting in well with his new team. Wenger spoke about Van Persie’s success in an interview with ESPN.

“I am not surprised he has been a success with United so far. He makes intelligent runs, he is a great finisher,” Wenger said.

He went on to say this game is not about Van Persie and hopes Arsenal fans are respectful towards their former captain.

“I hope he gets a respectful reception. We campaign against discrimination against all varieties and it is the same when you disrespect players, Saturday is not about Van Persie. It is about us getting a result,” Wenger said.

Arsenal is going to need the full three points Saturday if they hope to get back in the title race. They are already six points behind Manchester United and seven points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea through nine games. Arsenal has struggled to score many goals so far this season. Through nine games, they have only scored 14 goals. However, the defense has been much better this season than in the past, conceding only six goals, the lowest amount in the Premier League.

Arsenal fans are hoping the three summer signings start producing more goals. Unlike Van Persie at Manchester United, Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud, and Santi Cazorla have combined for five goals and five assists compared to Van Persie’s seven goals and three assists.

The men in Manchester United jerseys are currently in second place in the Premier League, only one point behind leaders Chelsea following United’s controversial victory at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Unlike Arsenal, Manchester United has not had difficulties finding the back of the net. They have scored 24 goals in nine games, but have let up far more goals than their opponent, conceding 13 times.

Last season, Manchester United won both fixtures against Arsenal. The match played at Old Trafford was extremely lopsided with Manchester United winning 8-2. I do not see this game having nearly as many goals, but I do expect Manchester United to win. If I had to make a prediction, I would say Manchester United will win this game 3-1 with Van Persie scoring twice against his former club.

United v. Chelsea

Chelsea v. Manchester United Recap

Chelsea suffered its first defeat of the English Premier League season Sunday against Manchester United. Sure, the game was controversial and has Chelsea fans in an uproar and Chelsea players claiming the referee, Mark Clattenburg, used “inappropriate language.”

I understand that the sending off was a little harsh and that Chicharito was offside. However, the offside decision would have been a hard decision for the linesman considering the chaotic sequence leading up to the goal. All of this is not the point though. The game is over. No one is going to look at the game again and say, “Hey, you know what, Torres shouldn’t have been sent off and Chicharito was offside. Therefore, let’s go back and give Chelsea a point.” That’s never going to happen, so now it is time for Chelsea and their fans to move on to the next game.

When a team is winning, everything runs smoothly and everyone is happy. The true test of a team is how it responds to adversity. Chelsea will now have to play its next game against Swansea City on Saturday without John Terry, Fernando Torres, and Branislav Ivanovic. Therefore, Roberto Di Matteo needs to get his team focused on their next match and get the Manchester United game out of their minds as quickly as possible.

Swansea City is no pushover either. Swansea is currently in 11th place in the Premier League and the game is at Liberty Stadium, where Swansea is 2-2-1. Manchester City was only able to beat Swansea 1-0 this past weekend, so a win for Chelsea without three main players could be difficult.

Chelsea should focus on the fact that they are still in first place. Even with that loss, they still hold a one-point advantage over Manchester United and Manchester City. Instead of dwelling on the past, they should look forward to their next encounter and concentrate on getting three points and maintaining their slim lead atop the Premier League. (Also, try to not concede two early goals and put your team in such a deep whole to climb out of.)

Adidas Condivo 12 Training Pant

Adidas Condivo 12 Training Pants Review – Black

The cold weather seems as though it is finally here to stay. That means that you’ll have to bundle up a little more if you are playing soccer outdoors. A perfect thing to wear while you train is the Adidas Condivo 12 training pants. These pants are stylish and will help keep you warm in the cold weather.

These training pants are predominantly black and have white accents throughout to add a little color. These have a thin white stripe near the pocket and then the three Adidas stripes down the leg are white. This black and white combo is a classic look and the dark color will allow for more wear without worrying about getting them dirty.

Two other nice features these pants have are the zipper pockets and the zipper at the bottom of the pants. The zipper pockets allow you to keep your phone and wallet in your pockets and not worry about them falling out when you’re walking if you are wearing these casually. They are also a great place to store gloves when you are training in the cold. The zipper near the bottom helps tighten the bottom of the training pants. Instead of having pants that hang over your cleats and that could get stepped on, these are tight so you wont be stepping over the base of the pants.

In addition to looking great, these are also extremely comfortable. They feature climacool technology. This helps keep you dry and comfortable while you are training hard to perfect your game.

These training pants look great, feel great, and SoccerPro.com offers a deal if you order as a team. If you are ordering a large quantity, SoccerPro.com offers a percentage discount based on how many are ordered. Head over to SoccerPro.com and check out these awesome training pants before it gets even colder outside!

Villas-Boas

Villas-Boas has a chance at revenge

This weekend will provide soccer fans with a very enticing game to watch: Chelsea at Tottenham. Not only does this match feature two of the top teams in the English Premier League, it also is the first time Andres Villas-Boas will manage against his former club.

Chelsea sacked Villas-Boas last season after a disappointing start to the campaign. The first few games of his managerial career at Tottenham were not much better. Tottenham lost to Newcastle in the first week of the Premier League and then drew their next two games against West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City. However, since the draw against Norwich, Tottenham have gone on to win four in a row, with the most notable victory coming against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Tottenham have risen to fifth place in the EPL and are currently five points behind league leaders Chelsea. Villas-Boas has downplayed how this game affects him personally.

“I think that in the end there is one thing that has, to a certain extent, been blown out of proportion in some way because this is not a personal matter,” Boas said at a press conference.

The men in Chelsea jerseys have yet to lose in the Premier League winning six games and only drawing once. This encounter begins a tough stretch of games ahead for the London club. During a five game stretch after their match against Tottenham, Chelsea face Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City. Luckily for the Blue’s, each of those teams travel to Stamford Bridge, which should help give Chelsea an advantage.

This will be a tough match for Chelsea. Tottenham is a team on a hot steak with a manager hoping for revenge against his former club. The fans at White Hart Lane will also give their players a boost. I believe this will be a close game, but I give the edge to Tottenham. I think Tottenham will win 2-1, and Villas-Boas will get his revenge by beating the club that threw him to the curb.
